Skippers lookout
This location sits in close proximity to Coronet Peak. It offers stunning views of The Remarkables, everything between Arrowtown to Lake Hayes to Queenstown city itself. You’ll be treated to landscapes that inspired the famous kiwi painter, Rita Angus.
How do we get there?
A 2WD is suitable for reaching Skippers Lookout. This location can be accessed from Coronet Peak Road and is to the left of the Skippers Road turnoff. Don’t be fooled by the name of the lookout - it is not located in Skippers Canyon but provides a breathtaking backdrop regardless.
What do we wear?
For this location I recommend wearing neutral, nude or earthy tones in warmer months. In colder months be sure to dress appropriately for the cold, snowy weather.
When should we go?
The warmer and colder months paint the landscape very differently. In the warmer months, you’ll be greeted by a rolling sunkissed, golden grassy landscape that is characteristic of the area. In Winter, you will be treated to a winter wonderland of snow-capped mountains.
Optional bonus spot!
If you have a 4wd, we can venture on from this spot to the top of the skippers road. Not far from here is an epic spot pictured below! This is an awesome spot and something a bit different from the main lookout.
Skippers Lookout is an awesome spot that offers a unique view of Queenstown that you can’t get with the other locations. If you are looking for that rugged Central Otago, golden tussocks and mountains look, then this is the spot for you! In the winter there is also the optionof driving up the hill a little bit more for some snow! Fun!! If you’d like to book a photoshoot at Skippers Lookout, click here.
